Purpose of the Role
As a Casual Cashier, your main goal will be to deliver exceptional customer service at the point of sale and create a positive shopping experience for every Dis-Chem customer. You’ll be responsible for accurately recording transactions, processing various payment types, and maintaining a clean and efficient checkout area — all while adhering to company policies and ensuring zero tolerance toward fraud or cash handling errors.
This position plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth daily store operations, supporting frontline sales, and maintaining Dis-Chem’s reputation for professionalism and reliability.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Grade 12 / Matric certificate

At least 6 months of cashier or till operation experience

Basic computer literacy, especially with MS Office

Strong command of English — both spoken and written
-
Sound numerical and cash-handling skills

Excellent customer service orientation

Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
Candidates who live near Woodmead or have reliable transport will be preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily duties will include:

Providing friendly, efficient, and professional customer service.

Handling all transactions accurately, including cash, card, and voucher payments.

Ensuring all items are scanned and accounted for before leaving the store.

Managing returns, exchanges, and refunds in line with company procedures.

Maintaining cash flow integrity and ensuring all voids or price changes are signed off by supervisors.

Upholding Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication standards to ensure clear and respectful customer interactions.

Staying informed about current promotions, discounts, and loyalty programmes.

Reporting suspicious behaviour or security concerns immediately to management.

Ensuring all transactions are completed securely, and all cash is stored safely in drop safes.

Contributing to the overall cleanliness and organisation of the checkout area.
