Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must hold a relevant qualification at NQF Level 6 as recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Computer literacy is essential, as the role involves frequent use of electronic grant management systems and databases.

Added Advantage:
A valid driver’s licence and/or prior administrative or clerical experience within a public-service or customer-care environment will serve as an advantage.


Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will perform a range of administrative duties related to social grant processing and customer service within the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). The position is focused on ensuring effective, accurate, and timely delivery of grant services to the public.

Main duties include:

  • Providing frontline customer-care services to social-grant clients by responding to queries, explaining requirements, and guiding applicants through relevant procedures.

  • Screening and capturing grant applications accurately on the system and conducting beneficiary maintenance functions, including updates, verifications, and corrections.

  • Administering medical bookings and assessments for applicants who require medical evaluation as part of their grant-eligibility process.

  • Providing off-site grant application services to clients who are unable to visit SASSA offices, ensuring inclusive service delivery across the community.

  • Scanning, batching, and filing of grant documentation in accordance with established administrative controls and confidentiality standards.

  • Supporting the implementation of SASSA’s service-delivery improvement initiatives, maintaining professional standards, and adhering to Batho Pele principles.

The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate excellent attention to detail, accuracy in data capturing, and a commitment to providing effective public service.

Candidates must display:

  • Strong administrative, organisational, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

  • The ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

  • Client-orientation and a commitment to delivering high-quality public services.

  • Numerical accuracy, time management, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

  • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a diverse, team-based environment.


Employment-Equity Targets:

In line with SASSA’s Employment Equity Plan, preference for appointment will be given in the following order:

  1. African Male (first preference)

  2. Coloured Male / White Male / Coloured Female (second preference)
