Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have at least an ABET Certificate, which demonstrates basic literacy and numeracy, making the positions accessible to individuals with limited formal education. Although ABET is the minimum requirement, a higher qualification will be considered beneficial and may strengthen an applicant’s competitiveness.

Candidates with relevant experience—particularly in maintenance, gardening, dam operations, or general labour work—will be given preference. This includes experience in handling gardening tools, operating basic outdoor equipment, and performing manual labour duties such as cutting grass, cleaning open areas, applying herbicides, or doing minor repairs.

Applicants should also have basic knowledge of maintenance processes, especially those connected to government water infrastructure. Understanding the upkeep of canals, pipelines, servitudes, buildings, and dams is an advantage. These roles require individuals who are physically able to perform manual work outdoors and follow safety rules consistently.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

General Workers will support the overall functioning and appearance of government water facilities. Their tasks include a wide range of maintenance duties that keep infrastructure in good working order. The main responsibilities are:

  1. General Maintenance Work
Workers will perform physical tasks such as weed removal, grass cutting, sweeping, cleaning, and clearing debris around dam areas and open terrain. They may also assist with painting surfaces, keeping facilities presentable and protected from wear.

  2. Fire Break Maintenance and Herbicide Application
To prevent wildfires, General Workers will help maintain fire breaks around the facilities. They may also apply herbicides where necessary, following safe usage guidelines.

  3. Routine Infrastructure Inspections
Workers will conduct regular inspections around government infrastructure to identify faults, hazards, leaks, cracks, or structural concerns. They must report these findings to supervisors quickly.

  4. Supporting Repairs and Maintenance
General Workers assist in maintaining government water systems, including canals, dams, pipelines, pump stations, buildings, and storage areas. This might involve digging, clearing blockages, removing debris, and assisting artisans where needed.

  5. Loading and Offloading Equipment
Workers must load and off-load tools, pipes, materials, and other equipment as part of operational activities.

  6. Adhering to Safety Regulations
All tasks must be carried out in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, ensuring safety for themselves and their teams. They must follow instructions and use protective gear when required.

  7. Performing Additional Tasks
Supervisors may assign other general duties depending on operational needs, meaning flexibility is vital.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is reliable, physically strong, and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. They should follow instructions well, communicate issues promptly, and work cooperatively within a maintenance team. A willingness to learn new tasks and strictly follow safety guidelines is essential.
