An NQF Level 1 or 2 qualification — that’s equivalent to Grade 8 or Grade 9, or an ABET Level 2 certificate from a recognized Basic Education institution.

Basic communication skills

Must be physically fit and healthy – this is a physically demanding job

Must not be allergic to grass or outdoor working conditions

Able to work under pressure and in various environments (especially outdoors)

Some understanding of:

Cleaning and maintenance techniques

Building upkeep, bush clearing, paving repairs

Firebreak creation and soil erosion control

Main Responsibilities
As a General Worker, your tasks will include:
-
Performing basic maintenance and cleaning duties in and around the district or library grounds
-
Cutting grass, collecting materials, and using them for repairs and landscaping
-
Keeping all tools and equipment clean, safe, and in good condition
-
Helping control soil erosion by managing water flow and doing landscaping
-
Clearing weeds, cutting bushes, and cleaning the surroundings
-
Assisting with the creation and maintenance of firebreaks to prevent fire hazards
-
Carrying out any other manual labour tasks needed to maintain a clean and safe environment
