About the Programme
The City of Cape Town’s Fire Fighter Learnership is designed to equip candidates with theoretical knowledge, physical training, and real-world fire-fighting experience. Upon successful completion, participants may become eligible for permanent positions within the City’s Fire Services.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
To apply, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Age: 18 years or older
- Education: Grade 12 certificate (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred)
- Physical Fitness: No fear of confined spaces or heights; must be medically and physically fit
- Personal Attributes: Ability to work in a team, manage stress, and demonstrate discipline
- Criminal Record: Clean background is essential

Upload certified copies of the following:- South African ID
- Matric Certificate
- Fitness Assessment:
You will be tested on:- Reach test
- 2.4 km run (timed)
- Push-ups
- Sit-ups
- Dead load carries
- Further Assessments:
If you pass the fitness test, you will also complete:- Written assessment
- Interview
- Medical evaluation
- Drug test
- Tests for claustrophobia and acrophobia
- Background Checks:
Fingerprints or ID number will be used for criminal record verification.
Contract Details
- Training Contract: Non-permanent, valid only for the duration of the learnership.
- Certification & Employment: Permanent employment is subject to successful completion of all program elements and final certification.
