About the Programme

Nedbank is proud to be part of South Africa’s Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative, a public-private partnership led by the Presidency to combat youth unemployment. Through this programme, Nedbank aims to empower unemployed youth by providing meaningful work experience within the banking and financial services sector.

Participants will gain 12 months of valuable practical exposure that enhances employability, builds professional skills, and opens doors to future career opportunities. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a YES Programme Certificate, increasing their competitiveness in the formal job market.


Programme Purpose

Nedbank’s YES Youth initiative aims to:

  • Provide unemployed young people with structured workplace experience;

  • Contribute to skills development and employability in South Africa;

  • Build a pipeline of potential future employees for Nedbank;

  • Support Nedbank’s commitment to transformation, empowerment, and inclusive growth.


Placement Areas

Successful candidates will be placed in the Nedbank Contact Centre, within the following divisions:

  • Personal Banking

  • Private Banking

You will be based at the Nedbank Park Square Campus in Umhlanga, Durban North.


Key Responsibilities

Depending on the assigned department, participants will engage in service, sales, or collections roles that include:

  • Providing excellent client service via telephone, email, and SMS.

  • Promoting Nedbank’s values: integrity, respect, accountability, people-centredness, and client focus.

  • Assisting clients with account, product, or payment-related queries.

  • Building and maintaining positive client relationships through professional communication.

  • Identifying and escalating opportunities to promote Nedbank’s products and services.

  • Collections Department: Managing arrear accounts and reducing credit risk.

  • Sales and Services: Delivering efficient service, resolving issues, and supporting sales targets.

  • Maintaining accurate client records and adhering to company policies.

  • Collaborating effectively with your team to meet performance goals and enhance client satisfaction.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Hold a Grade 12 (Matric) / National Senior Certificate.

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 29 years (born between November 1995 and November 2007).

  • Be currently unemployed and not studying full-time during the programme.

  • Have never participated in another YES Programme.

  • Be a South African citizen, classified under the B-BBEE Act (Black, Coloured, or Indian).

  • Possess a valid South African ID.


Skills and Competencies Required

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

  • Knowledge of other South African languages is an advantage.

  • Basic computer literacy – Microsoft Office and typing proficiency.

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

  • Teamwork and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment.

  • Reliability and punctuality.

  • Positive attitude with eagerness to learn and grow.


Working Conditions

  • Must be willing to work 8-hour shifts, including weekends and public holidays if required.

  • Work is onsite at the Nedbank Park Square Campus in Umhlanga Rocks.

  • As this is a stipend-based position, candidates should reside within 30–35 km of Umhlanga to ensure affordability and consistent attendance.

Preferred residential areas include:
Umhlanga, La Lucia, Mount Edgecombe, Phoenix, Verulam, KwaMashu, Durban North, Morningside, Berea, Pinetown, Westville, New Germany, and surrounding suburbs.


Remuneration

  • Participants will receive a monthly stipend to assist with basic living expenses.

  • This stipend is not a full salary and will not cover relocation or long-distance commuting costs.

  • The programme provides a structured development experience, not permanent employment.
