Eskom Youth Employment Service (YES) 2025 – Empowering the Next Generation

The Youth Employment Service (YES) is one of South Africa’s most impactful public-private partnerships, designed to address the growing challenge of youth unemployment. This year, Eskom, the nation’s leading energy utility, joins the initiative once again to offer young South Africans an opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the energy sector.

Through this program, Eskom is opening its doors to unemployed youth across Gauteng, providing a platform for professional growth, learning, and empowerment. This is not just a temporary job — it’s a life-changing stepping stone into the world of work and the broader energy industry.

About the Program

The Eskom Youth Employment Service (YES) is a 12-month fixed-term contract program aimed at providing first-time job seekers with practical work exposure. It aligns with South Africa’s national agenda to uplift the youth, enhance skills development, and create a more inclusive economy.

Successful candidates will gain real-world experience by working within various Eskom departments, including:

  • Human Resources

  • Finance

  • Maintenance & Operations

  • Business Enablement

  • Asset Creation

  • Customer Services

Participants will not only learn about Eskom’s core operations but also develop essential workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving. By the end of the program, candidates will have a stronger foundation to pursue full-time employment or further studies.

Who Can Apply

To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen.

  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 34 years.

  • Must have Grade 12 (Matric); those with Mathematics, Physics, and Accounting as subjects will have an added advantage.

  • Must have no prior work experience.

In addition to these basic requirements, candidates must also meet Eskom’s selection criteria:

  • You must not have been permanently employed with any single employer for more than one year.

  • You must not be studying full-time during the year of participation.

  • You must not have participated in the YES initiative previously.

These requirements ensure that the program truly benefits those who are new to the workforce and in need of an entry-level opportunity.
